I am 19 years old and had the luck to fly many times on 727s as a child. I flew on the 737-200 too, and I miss seeing them on approach over my house. Here, in Bolivia, the last 727-200 was retired around 2015, and the last 737-200 around 2017.

Just one ge90-115b produces almost as much thrust as all four of the cfm56-5c on the A340-300 no wonder it's an internet "joke" how there "hairdryer engines" and how the A340-300 is so slow to take off, it has a slow climb rate and it's causing speed is slightly lower then other aircraft.

I love the 3 engine configuration planes with the MD-11 being my favorite.

The best ever was on a TWA 727 from Washington DC to Chicago O'Hara in 1969. So luxurious, quiet, and clean.

Shea Stadium during the 80's. Hearing those jets take off from LaGuardia, and go right past the Stadium. Talk about loud, the whole stadium would shake. I couldn't see them at all, but had to be a DC-8 or 727 Those planes would wake the dead.

Loud and ear piercing. Between them and the 707s that was common in the 1960s to the 80s. As the plane got farther away it sounded like small sonic booms. Some military variants of 707s are still flying and even with hush fans they are still quite loud. First flew on a 727 in Oct, 1968 (Continental Airlines "the proud bird with the golden tail" was their slogan) As I recall they were insulated well as they quieted down after climbing from takeoff.

I LOVE 727s!

And that is a WHISPERjet taking off.

I worked on the flight line in college in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Amway keeps several hangars there in an enormous flight department. I regularly saw their Boeing 727, which was a shorter -100 model (with the skinnier, oval S-duct inlet) that was upgraded with winglets and the larger JT-8D-200 engines that were also more powerful and quieter with better thrust reversers. I got to go in it and see how amazing and functional and luxurious it was. My former next door neighbor has flown it all over the world. Sweet bird. This one reminded me of that. Thanks for posting.

Loud and smoky? These were the quieter JT8D-200 engines, using better bypass air ducting to mix with the hot exhaust to muffle the sound. Huge upgrade from Pratt and Whitney.

I was fortunate enough to have flown in 727s many times before they were retired. Next to the 707 it was one of the sexiest airplanes Boeing ever built! Kudos 727!

My first airplane ride was a 727 from Baltimore, Maryland to West Palm Beach or I should say Miami Florida. Thanks to my grandparents we first class. it was the most wonderful thing I had ever done after I got over the panic. But it was so amazing the feeling of power the sound everything. 1972. I was all of 11. What I remember is right after takeoff the plane. Thanks to the left hard and I tried to lean to the right to straighten the plane out. 😂 but then I just fell in love with flying forever. And even today with all of its problems flying this one of my favorite things to do.
